Top Tier Romance Tropes2/24/2023 Love is in the air this month, so it’s a great time to talk about love, romance and writing. With festivities of spring in one hand the excitement of loving and being loved in the other, what else one needs. Romance is one of the widely discussed genre in almost every literature be it English, Turkish or Urdu etc. romance fictions are interspersed with details of warm, passion and tenderness. There are numerous tropes of romance fiction but the ones that make their place in the top tier are... Friends to lovers: Friends to lovers trope is a popular trope of romance fiction. It is when two people become friends and as their friendship progresses they realize that they have something between them- a kind of a connection that binds them together. It is a lovely trope which appeals the hearts of the readers very much. Enemies to lovers: Enemies to lovers is a saucy trope which rose to stardom in the romance fiction within the past few years. It is when two people abhor each other and then come across a series of events where they start to develop a soft corner for one other. Fake dating scenario: It’s like a new hobby for dishonesty but in a cool yet cutting way. It is when two people pretend to behave like a couple as a means of achieving some sort of benefits. Forbidden love: Its one of my personal favorites. Its excruciatingly painful but leaves you with a lot of emotions as you read it. in this case, two people can fall in love with each other outside of their cast, religion or two people from rival families fall in love with one another. Star crossed lover is also a theme that falls under this trope. Flings/ friends with benefits: Now, this trope has often take many forms; sometimes romantic and sometimes with an erotic note. Two people decide to have casual sexual relationship with each other but without a commitment. Unrequited love: Last but not the least comes the trope where the entire foundation of love sets itself and that is one sided or unrequited love. We all have gone through such type of love at least for once in our life before. It is when one person (either a boy or a girl) loves the other person 9 a boy loving a girl or vice versa) but unfortunately the other person doesn’t feel the same way about them. Love leaves you with a lot of things to laugh, cry, lean, learn and move on. These tropes are not just themes but different paradigms of emotions extrapolated at large. They provide us a room for catharsis and character building. I hope these tropes were captivating for you all.
