This is the part two to my previous article: The Definitive Vampire Media Ranking List Part One. In that article I introduce all the tiers and everything, make sure to read it before reading this article. There may be some pieces of media where that I have missed, and it is simply because I haven’t watched/read it, and I would like to be entirely educated on my rankings. Shadowhunters The vampire content in this series was as questionable as the series itself. This is another book I read in middle school, so my memory is somewhat fuzzy. When I was twelve I practically worshipped the ground that Cassandra Clare walked on, but now that I’m older and know about all of the weird incest stuff (and the infamous Ron and Ginny fanfiction), I feel very different. However, this doesn’t have a lot to do with vampires. Personal feelings about the series aside, I’d say that the vampires in these books were pretty run of the mill. Even though they featured heavily in the series, I still kind of forget that they were even there. All bark, no bite. What We Do in the Shadows (movie) I watched this movie after watching the show, and I’ll be honest, I didn’t love it as much as the show, but I still loved it. It was laugh-out-loud hilarious with fun characters. Just don’t make the mistake of watching it with your parents. Be smarter than I am, please. Bloody Brilliant. First Kill I’ve only seen the first episode of this show so far, but I’m obsessed. But I will say that it’s a bit over-the-top. My main complaint with it is that the music is louder than the actual dialogue (not a huge deal but still a pet peeve). Also, the vampires seem to have been de-fanged, if you pardon the pun. The vampires in this show feel too powerful, without many of the classic traits that make them vampires. They can go out in the sun, and can even hide their fangs. HOWEVER, I still adore this show. It is fun to watch and overdramatic, which is basically everything you could ever want from a vampire show. It’s camp. Interview With the Vampire I watched this movie as homework for a film studies class I took in high school, and the day that we got back into class, my teacher said: “before you ask, yes, the vampires are gay.” I think that’s the perfect introduction to this movie. The homoerotic tension of this movie was chef’s kiss, and even though it was more queercoding than anything else, the implication was still there. The movie was dramatic and fun to watch, and who could ask for anything more in their vampire flick? Bat-tastic. Hotel Translyvania Yes, I am reviewing a children’s movie for this list. Growing up with a younger sibling, I was dragged to every single movie when it was released in theatres. Basically, I’m heavily invested in the Hotel Translyvania franchise. Honestly, the first two movies are pretty solid, with some sweet and child appropriate themes that aren’t too shallow but are still easily digestible. Bat-tastic. That’s the end of my list! I hope you enjoyed the ride. Nate Fahmiis a young writer from Ottawa, Canada. When he isn’t in school, he enjoys reading, writing, crochet, and playing with his two cats.
