They are universal signs that human beings have adapted to and easily recognize, even since they are babies. In writing facial expressions are tools with immense potential. It can show your character’s emotions without the need to tell directly. It can build interactions between characters, and it will create descriptions that efficiently impact the reader. To help you out when choosing a facial expression, this is a list of ten original yet clear gestures (because most of us do not really know what “a shadow crossed his eyes” means).
