JUVEN
enter sandman
by Julie Larick
Do you crack so hard you melt in December?
Violently and parched, the shimmering,
thirst-starved sea of sand,
the unlucky,
undiluted, clumped-
together soul of you in this
sand-man, the embodiment of
death metal and a dry tinderbox cough,
his plush scarf a stripped-down pickled cactus,
charming sweater buttons morphed
into a blazing ring of sun,
stick-arms the craving leaves of
Ironwood,
smiling placidly to the dry pale
December sky.
